Tips to Reduce Damage to Your Hair from Styling

By Tricia Chaves · February 28, 2014
I take care of my hair by air-drying with stress-free styling products, using good conditioner daily and giving my strands weekly oil treatments.

Skipping a daily shampoo can save your hair a lot of wear and tear, both in the shower and the styling that goes on afterward - typically with heat. Although my fine hair makes it difficult to go more than 24 hours between washes, a ponytail paired with a little dusting of dry shampoo allows me to go a day between shampoos without looking unkempt. The brand in my beauty bag these days is Keratin Complex Volumizing Dry Shampoo. The unisex product is available in colors to coordinate with your hair or the white variety, which brushes into your tresses for a transparent finish.
When air-drying my hair isn't possible, I love the Remington Wet 2 Straight flat iron, which is infused with Soy Hydra Complex to smooth your hair without the need for any additional products. Its vented plates enable you to straighten and dry from damp in one step, limiting damage from your brush and hairdryer.

The Cool Care wall-mounted holder will keep your flat iron close at hand yet out of reach for your little one. After her tolddler burned himself grabbing the plates of her flat iron, Cover Look Collection correspondent Kristen Kearns was eager to test one in her own home and endorses the product for its ease of istallation and ability to keep her children safe from injury without sacrificing her daily primping ritual. Even if you don't have children, the space-saving Cool Care holder is helpful for keeping your tool at your fingertips, saving on drawer space and will keep it from slipping off small countertops.
